Drivers Education Program

The Drivers Education program is a free, 5 week program that includes 2 hours of practical and fun activities each week to assist new migrants become familiar with Queensland road rules and to become confident and competent Learner drivers. An opportunity is provided during the course to sit the written Learner Driver test. The program is open to eligible migrants who have never driven before, have an overseas license, or simply need to build their knowledge and confidence.

With access to a qualified driving instructor, the course includes both theoretical and practical competencies so that all of the road rules and signs can be and are understood.

The sessions are weekly as follows

Session 1 – Introduction
Session 2 – Roundabouts
Session 3 – Road Safety and Driving Conditions
Session 4 – Insurance, accidents and buying a car, meet the Police and sit the learner driver test. Participants receive further input from a representative of Department of Transport and the opportunity to sit the Learner Driver test with the other members of the group.
Session 5 – Practical driving lesson

On the final week participants receive a short practical driving lesson with a Driving Instructor.

To pass the course all sessions must be attended. Please note that children are welcome to attend with their parents.
