About Us

George Street Neighbourhood Centre Association Inc. (GSNCA Inc.) is a community based Not-For-Profit organisation that has been established for over 22 years.  It uses Community Development, Strengths Based and Client Centered frameworks to respond to the needs of the community and deliver a range of services within Mackay.  George Street Neighbourhood Centre Association Inc. is a place where everyone is treated equally and with respect regardless of age, race, gender or ability. At George Street Neighbourhood Centre Association Inc. everyone has the opportunity to seek information, develop new skills, build self-esteem, interact with others in our community and above all create positive change within their life.

George Street Neighbourhood Centre Association Inc. prides itself on being a key resource to the multicultural community of Mackay and will utilise its existing connections and resources to ensure the success of the Many Hands program described below.  George Street Neighbourhood Centre Association Inc. currently runs a number of programs that specifically target multicultural community members

In 2008 George Street Neighbourhood Centre Association Inc. was supported by the Queensland Government to expand from its original location at 4 George Street South Mackay, to take on a second location, the Shakespeare Child and Family Centre, at 43 Shakespeare Street East Mackay.

With many valuable programs being offered to the community our objectives are to

  • Increase the sense of social belonging for families and individuals within the community;
  • Be aware of community needs and issues and respond accordingly;
  • Offer a quality service in an informed, caring and confidential manner; and
  • Ensure that the Centre maintains a welcoming atmosphere.


George Street Neighbourhood Centre Association Inc. prides itself on being a key resource for the Mackay Community and offers a broad range of services, programs, groups, events and community facilities.

The professional and highly skilled staff of George Street Neighbourhood Centre Association Inc. are available to help the broader community with information and referrals, support, community education and community development.

Election of Governing Body

GSNCA Inc. has clear and transparent processes for electing Management Committee members that are in line with the Associations Incorporation Act 1981 and the GSNCA Inc. GSNCA Inc. welcomes individuals and organisations with a genuine interest in the organisation to become members of GSNCA Inc. Linda Bishop

My passion and drive comes from working on the frontline in a Community Mental Health Organisation as a Project worker. I have the privilege of working side by side with our community members, this has given me further understanding of the challenges our members face on a daily basis and it soon led me to think outside the box explore, research and develop new programs in our local region. I am a Steering Committee member of the Mackay Regional Mental Health Network as I feel networking and forming partnerships is a key element to future Community Development opportunities. I am a Committee member of Mackay Clubhouse a new model and program for Mackay. I have been fortunate to be part of Clubhouse from the initial scoping to final implementation of current program.
